The court directs the investigating officer of the Ghalib Market Police to record the statements of a couple who married without their parent's consent and were consequently being harassed by police officials at the behest of the girl's father, and dislodge any criminal case registered against them and report to the court.
The court states that union councils, police stations and magistrates of the district courts are bound to uphold love marriages as valid and legitimate when an adult girl certifies her husband at either of these places.

The Lahore high court on Wednesday ruled that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's election though a referendum was valid under law and he was legally entitled to hold the offices of the president as well as chief of army.
The court order followed an agitation by the influential lawyers community against attempts by the government to 'subvert' the judiciary with inducements, such as the three-year extension of service to all higher court judges.
Since the court issued the order, Musharraf, whose confidants earlier held hectic negotiations with the opposition specially with that of the Islamist alliance, Muthahida Majlis-e-Amal, struck a hardline stance against opposition during the past few weeks and said he would continue in uniform.

The court's decision overturned a judgment by the Lahore High Court, issued in March, that threw out the convictions of five of the men accused of involvement in the rape and commuted the death sentence of a sixth.

The Lahore high court on Friday rejected a petition challenging the assumption of President's office by Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf, saying that existing rules do not allow a law suit against the President.
The petition, filed by the Lawyer's Forum in Lahore, had been returned on Friday by the court registrar on the grounds that it had been filed before the principle seat of the Lahore high court, which was not the proper bench to deal with the matter.
Not deterred by the Court's decision, Mian Hanif Tahir of the Lawyer's Forum has now filed another petition asking it to be referred to the chief justice of the Lahore high court.

LAHORE, April 21, 2003: The Lahore High Court on Monday released a woman convicted of murder whose appeal was pending before the Supreme Court.
However, her counsel Ashgar Rokhari sought the suspension of the commuted sentence from the LHC on the grounds that it had the jurisdiction under Section 426 (2-B) of CrPC since the appeal against the award of sentence had already been admitted for hearing by the SC.
Additional Advocate General Hanif Khatana admitted that the relevant law cited by the petitioner's counsel did give the authority to the court for suspending her sentence, yet the court should not grant such relief as the matter was subjudice before the SC.

Victim Mukhtaran Mai is appealing a March decision by Lahore High Court which quashed the convictions of six men accused of involvement in her gang rape.
Breaking with tradition in male-dominated Pakistan and in the process becoming a human rights icon, Mai testified against her attackers and six suspects were sentenced to death for gang rape.
However the Lahore High Court ruling overturned five of the convictions and commuted the sixth's death sentence to life imprisonment, prompting countrywide outrage and a joint appeal to the Supreme Court by Mai and the government.
