Laibach (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Laibach have frequently been accused of Germanophilia thanks to their costumes, which often resembled Nazi officers' uniforms, and also thanks to the Wagnerian stylistic aspects found in some of their music, notably the thunder in "Sympathy for the Devil (Time for a Change)".
Laibach always denied this strongly, pointing out that, as fascism needs a scapegoat, they had become their own scapegoat in the name of satire.
Laibach are also known for their cover versions, which are often used to subvert the original message or intention of the song - most notable being their cover version of the song "Life is Life" on the album Opus Dei, which completely changes the meaning of the song from the original writers' intentions.

However, behind the fascistic façade, the members of Laibach were the polar opposite of everything their aesthetics suggested: anarchic idealists, artists, and activists who opposed tyranny in all its forms (fascistic, communistic, capitalistic) and envisioned a future free of war and oppression.
After an inflammatory appearance on state-run television, Laibach were banned from performing or releasing albums for seven years (they continued to perform and release records, though they never put the Laibach name on the covers or posters).

Laibach is one of the more fascinating names making independent music throughout the past twenty years.
Unlike previous Laibach recordings, on which the sound could not be mistaken for anyone but Laibach, Kapital's sound is largely anonymous, sounding much like a handful of other techno/acid house groups working in the early nineties such as The KLF or 808 State.
With this one great work, Laibach could retire as the Gods of Philosophized/Politicized Art that they are, yet, their continuous output is equally impressive (their CD 'WAT', for example), however this CD remains my personal favorite.
