Lake Ainslie on Cape Breton Island is the largest natural freshwater lake in Nova Scotia.
The lake is approximately 20 km long and averages 5 km in width.
The lake was named after George Robert Ainslie, the Lieutenant Governor of Cape Breton Island from 1816 to 1820, when Cape Breton became part of Nova Scotia.

On September 23, 2003, it was confirmed by staff of the Inland Fisheries Division of the N.S. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, that a smallmouth bass (approximate size 30cm, approximate age 5 - 8 years) was reported to have been caught from Lake Ainslie.
Lake Ainslie is a well known Brook Trout lake located on Cape Breton Island and is the headwaters for the South-West Margaree Rivers.
As a result of this action at Lake Ainslie, the NSSA is offering a $1000.00 reward to anyone providing information that leads to a conviction of anyone illegally releasing live fish into Lake Ainslie, Nova Scotia.

The most recent show was in October 1985 in a well drilled for water on the eastern side of Lake Ainslie, Inverness County where oil was pumped to surface from a depth of approximately 80 feet (24.4 m).
NOTE: A well, which was referenced in several reports to have been drilled in the Lake Ainslie area to a depth of 3,260 feet (993.6 m) in 1902, does not in fact seem to have been drilled at all.
It was stated that at Lake Ainslie No. 2, in July 1912, over 215 feet (65.5 m) of oil sands were drilled.

The road follows the river, goes up a steep but short hill then descends to Scotsville on Lake Ainslie where there is a general store at the corner.

Basically Ainslie and Darling both have bass and I beleive white perch in Ainslie but not 100% sure.
Bass will take most trout baits, spinners of all sorts and lures.
