Lake Compounce is an amusement park located in Bristol, Connecticut and a small part of the neighboring town of Southington, Connecticut.
According to legend, Lake Compounce was once a land owned by Chief John Compound, who sold his land to John Norton for pennies on the dollar and miscellaneous trinkets, including a large copper tea kettle.
Now nicknamed "The Lake" the park also has a genuine open-air trolley built in the same year as the carousel, 1911.

Lake Compounce is on the Bristol-Southington, Connecticut town line.
Lake Compounce, as the name implies is built along side what is really isn't more than a large pond.
Lake Compounce does not allow you to bring coolers or food into the park, however they do provide a few shaded picnic benches outside of the park entrance if you wish to bring your own food and leave it in your car for the day.

Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the country...but you would never be able to tell it is so old.
Lake Compounce has a nice mixture of old and new rides, and all are well maintained and run well, regardless of age.
Finally, for the 2000 season, Lake Compounce has announced they are building a new wooden roller coaster, which will cover nearly a mile of track, racing along the same mountain as the sky ride.

Lake Compounce began as a picnic park in 1846 when Gad Norton, the owner of the property, allowed the public to swim and row on the spring fed lake named after Chief Compound, a Tunxis Indian who, legend has it, drowned while trying to cross the lake in a large brass kettle.
In 1875, Norton and Pierce petitioned local legislators to move the boundaries of Lake Compounce from Southington to Bristol.

The lawsuit filed in New Britain Superior Court claims that Lake Compounce and Total Landscaping and Tree Service of Newtown are responsible for the boy’s death.
"To me, it’s hard to believe that between the grounds crew of Lake Compounce and the tree company employees, that nobody recommended the removal of a long-standing, obvious dead tree which was obviously dangerous to passersby in a busy area of the park," said David Jaffe, a Hartford lawyer.
Lake Compounce officials, who could not be reached late Friday, have said the tragedy was "a natural occurrence" and an "act of God."

Lake Compounce is only about 15 minutes from my house and although they don't have an Intamin Hypercoaster or BandM Floorless coaster, they have what I call "good atmosphere".
Lake Compounce is proof that you don't need record breakers or expensive rides to be fun.
Lake Compounce's signature ride, Boulderdash is my favorite wooden coaster and it only cost $6 million.

We visited Lake Compounce as the second day of a 5 day amusement park trip.
We went in with the mentality that this was a smaller park so we could hit everything and get moving in a half day or so, but Lake Compounce just won us over so much that we stayed until closing.
Lake Compounce should be on every enthusiasts "must visit" list.

This is a "Must Ride" at Lake Compounce, and hopefully you will get an air-time fest, unlike me. Any seat gives a great ride, but I liked the back slightly better, better, because you had a wilder ride, and you were whipped down drops.
When I was at Lake Compounce, I only got to take two rides on Boulder Dash because it was my first time at the park and I wanted to experience as many different rides as possible.
Speaking of "The Lake", anytime that I heard one of the ride ops say "Thank you for riding ______ and we hope you enjoy your day at The Lake.", I couldn't help but say in my head "The Lake" like a neighbor of the park from across the street at ESPN, Dan Patrick.

It was installed in 1997 near the Carousel's current location, and it serves at an alternative to walking to the back-left section of Lake Compounce.
This is a historic trolley, and the car was orginally built in 1911 for New Haven, CT, where it operated until 1935.
Overall, this is a nice, historical ride, and it is a great alternative to walking to the back-left of Lake Compounce.

The parents of a 5-year-old boy who was killed by a falling tree limb at Lake Compounce last year filed a wrongful death suit Friday against the amusement park and Total Landscaping & Tree Service.
To hear people talk, Lake Compounce, based on its "past incidents" sounds like a death trap.
A young boy (5 years old, I think) was drowned on the Lake plunge ride after falling off the tube.

SOUTHINGTON -- Almost two months after working with Bristol firefighters to rescue 26 people from the Zoomerang steel roller coaster at Lake Compounce, Southington firefighters have been honored for their work in getting patrons down safely.
Southington firefighter John Aldieri said the town was in charge of passengers who were leaning forward out of their seats.
He commended the Lake Compounce personnel for knowing how the ride worked during the rescue.
