Elections are administered in each county by a four-member board of elections which consists of two Republicans and two Democrats appointed by the Ohio Secretary of State at the recommendation of each county party.

Lake County, Ohio, which has long subsidized the state's flagship recycling program, has decided to scrap curbside recycling.
In 2003 the county mandated that each city, village, and township in the county provide an additional $.69 per month recycling subsidy per household.
By the end of 2005, county commissioners realized local authorities would have to double their subsidy for the program to break even, and there was no guarantee the subsidies would not continue to rise in the future.

The event was recorded by seismic stations of the Geological Survey of Canada in southern Ontario and by northeastern Ohio stations of the Ohio Seismic Network.
A 3.3-magnitude earthquake on June 30, 2004 was centered very near this small one and was felt throughout much of Lake County.

The local company, Arcole Furnace, was said to be the largest industry in Ohio in 1834, producing between 1,000 and 1,500 tons of iron per year.
