Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko) is the most easily accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes.
Kawaguchiko's town center and the hot spring ryokan, some of which have baths with views of Mount Fuji, are clustered around the southeastern shores of Lake Kawaguchi.
The views of Mount Fuji and the lake are particularly nice from the northern shores and from various observation points on the hills and mountains surrounding the lake.

The Fuji Five Lake region (Fujigoko) is located at the foot of Mount Fuji at an altitude of roughly 1000 meters above sea level in mountainous Yamanashi Prefecture.
Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko), the most easily accessible of the five lakes, is located just next to Fuji-Yoshida in neighboring Fuji-Kawaguchiko Town.

We had a chance to nap a little bit on the bus, I managed to retrieve my JR Pass at the Kawaguchiko Station, and we made it to our hotel with minimal hassle.
At the end of the night, I was relaxing alone in the outdoor onsen (japanese public hot bath), with a stunning view of the nighttime Mt. Fuji lording over Lake Kawaguchiko.

The initial stretch through flowery meadows is pleasant enough, but the bulk of the hike is a dreary and interminable slog: the volcanic landscape consists of jagged red rock in varying sizes from dust to boulder, with the trail zigzagging left and right endlessly, and the hike just gets steeper and steeper as you progress.
Kawaguchiko 5th Station is the last place to have a meal or stock up on supplies without breaking the bank, although there's a bit of inflation even here.
All stations along the Kawaguchiko trail, as well as the summit itself, are equipped with mountain huts that sell drinks and basic climbing gear (sticks, flashlights, raincoats, even oxygen canisters).

We walked along a lovely little country road that hugged the coast of Lake Kawaguchiko (it feels redundant to say this, because the name implies that it is a lake, but anyway).
It was a wonderful sunny day, and we were psyched with the knowledge that we had no plans or commitments whatsoever for the whole day - we were free to do what we wanted until 6 pm, when we had to catch our bus back at FujiQ Highland.
We crossed a big bridge that connects the opposite shores of the major lake in the 5-lakes region (Lake Kawaguchiko).

Another splendid panoramic picture Dinyar, the bridge in the middle and the curving in the lake give very great perspective, and the leftside with it lovely village, the colours its very great together with the composition, and excellent stitching too.

There was a pretty strong wind going across the Lakes and you could see little water devils (as opposed to dust devils) whirling up water from the lake surface.
Views of the Lakes and Mount Fuji were fab but there was little time to get off the bus at all places that I wanted because I had to watch the bus timetable so not to miss the last bus.
It was nice and sunny and I had a quick stop at the Lake to watch some ducks and Geese near the shore.

I took regular trains and started hiking from Lake Kawaguchiko, which is at ~800m.
Hiking/running from the lake took about 6 hours (the last 1h20 with cramps in both quads), summiting at sunset.
All these activities were inexpensive back then for the almighty gaijin in the two decades before the 1970s when the dollar dropped and life for the gaijin in Japan became prohibitively expensive.
