Lake Louise is a very well known beauty spot and is well provided with extensive car parks within easy distance of the lake, however they were all full and we had to drive round for some time before spotting somebody just leaving.
Lake Louise first became known to the outside world on July 24th, 1882 when Tom Wilson, an explorer and route finder for the Canadian Pacific Railway (inevitably) was led there by a member of the Stony Indian band whose description of "the lake of little fishes" intrigued him.

The first settlers built a dam on the lake to operate a grist mill and the village of LeRoy was located by the "mill pond" as it was referred to.
Louise Hambrecht was born in December of 1866 on the family farm, which was known far and wide for its hereford cattle - the first to be brought into the state.
Louise's father, Conrad and her brother Frank, were founders of the First National Bank and both served as president, Frank also served as a county commissioner for 20 years, which was a record at the time of his death in 1933.

Spent two days at Lake Louise in the Chateau which is grossly over priced ($300 per night) given the disgusting state of the rooms, I guess you pay for the view.
Louise has one of the best daycare facilities around - children under 2 need a rewservation but for all other it is drop in and around CDN $4 per hour.
