Lake Nokomis is one of several lakes in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Because the lower part of the lake is crossed by Cedar Avenue running north-south, the impression from the ground is that the lake is shaped like an L. Lake Nokomis has recently undergone a preservation project, creating areas of grassland around it.
Lake Nokomis has been the site of one of the more unique activities in the Aquatennial celebration, the "Milk Carton Boat Race," although that event has recently been relocated to Lake Calhoun.

Lake Nokomis and its surrounding area is an integral part in the study of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed.
Ground water flows towards Lake Nokomis from the northwest, where the elevation is higher, through the lake toward the southeast, and eventually empties into the Mississippi River, where the elevation is lower.
Lake Nokomis was dredged in 1910 to convert it from a shallow lake to a recreational one.

Nokomis was the seventh town to take up the electric light proposition with the Local Gov't Board within the space of a month, and Nokomis was the only town promised any consideration.

The weir, or dam, at the outlet of Lake Nokomis where it joins Minnehaha Creek is being repaired after several months of problems.
The weir, completed in February of 2001, was designed to prevent Minnehaha Creek from flowing into Lake Nokomis during storm events, preventing the inflow of rough fish and pollutants, primarily rain water runoff from upstream streets and lawns.
As part of the project, the lake's carp population was reduced in January, 2001.
