On one hand, there's the largest manmade lake in the state, Lake Norman.
When filled to capacity, its surface area is 32,510 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and a main channel 34 miles in length — thus its nickname, the "Inland Sea." Thirteen miles of the shoreline are in the state park, which provides boating access.
On another hand, the park boasts its own 33-acre lake where fishing and boating are enjoyed.

I have just learned that Lake Norman State Park has applied to purchase a similar machine so we may have one to use on a regular basis later this year.
The park staff has instituted a trail closure policy that is in force for approximately 24 hours after the last rain fall.
There are several layers of state and environmental agencies that must approve of the trail layout.

This trail will continue to thrive because it is managed(open/closures) by the State Park Service...they are pretty diligent about closing the trail when wet.
You can get info for open/closure status by checking www.tarheeltrailblazers.com or calling the park office at (704) 528-6350, the status is usually at the end of the voicemail.
There is also a swimming area on the opposite side of the same parking lot as the trailhead, good for a post ride dip or lunch.
