Lake Pedder is the name of a former natural lake, located in the southwest of Tasmania, Australia, and the name used to refer to the larger man-made reservoir formed when the original lake was flooded by damming.
The Lake Pedder Earthworm is since 2003 listed as extinct on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Another extinction that occurred after the changes to the lake is that of the Lake Pedder Planarian (Romankenkius pedderensis), an endemic flatworm.

Lake Gordon is the name of a lake created by the Gordon Dam on the upper reaches of the Gordon River in central Tasmania.
The lake was created in the early 1970s for hydroelectric power by the Hydro Electricity Commission (HEC).
Lake Gordon is connected with the (new) Lake Pedder which supplies additional water for the Gordon Dam power station.

Pedder galaxias were also found in the slower flowing regions of several steeper streams draining the ranges to the north and south.
The decline in Pedder galaxias numbers is thought to be due to predation and/or competition with brown trout and climbing galaxias which were introduced to Lake Pedder when it was flooded in the early 1970's.
