Eleven years ago, Lake Sebu was a barangay unit of Surallah until it was created into a new municipality on November 11, 1982.
It is bounded in the north by the municipality of Surallah, in the south by the municipality of Kiamba, municipality of T'boli in the east and the province of Sultan Kudarat in the west.
Lake Sebu's elevation is estimated at 700 meters above sea level along the urban center of Poblacion.

Named as the Summer Capital of South Cotabato, Lake Sebu is home to the T'boli tribe.
Sadly however, with the denudatation of the surrounding forests much of the beauty that Lake Sebu was 15 or so years ago when I first visited the place has vanished.
With the concreting of the road leading up to Lake Sebu, it is now very easy to visit the place.

LAKE SEBU, South Cotabato -- After more than five years, Lake Lahit is teeming anew with aquatic life after residents took up the cudgels of cleaning it up of water hyacinths (Eichhornia crassipes).
Since the late 1990s, Lahit, one of the three major lakes in this hinterland town, was a bed of water hyacinths, or water lilies in layman’s term, displacing the livelihood of residents raising tilapia.
Village elder Tomas Panerio said the lake was congested by water hyacinths starting in 1999 after a pregnant woman who developed a craving to see the water plant stuck some stems of it into the water.

Janet Iko, chairperson of the Lake Sebu Indigenous Women Weavers Association Inc., said the provincial government gave them the fund to establish the nursery and to purchase abaca treated corms.

The special session was personally called by South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes to shed light on the ongoing explorations in the area by coal mining firms Daguma Agro-Minerals Inc., Bonanza Energy Resources Inc. and MG Mining and Energy Corporation.
Fuentes said she is set to consult local environment officials to clarify such matter and explain the possible impact of SMI proposed operations to the area’s environment.

elobung is a T’boli word for “festival” and became the theme name of the celebration for the founding of the Municipality of Lake Sebu, in South Cotabato to emphasize the town’s rich tribal heritage.
Realizing the big potential of Lake Sebu as a tourist destination and the attraction created by the colorful T’boli tribe, the local government made the celebration into a festival, and the best name to describe it would be no other than the T’boli word “helobung”, for festival.
On the second day of the celebration usually is a fluvial parade presenting the candidates for Mutya ng Lake Sebu (Miss Lake Sebu beauty pageant) around the lake.

Representatives of the Kasanyangan Foundation, Inc., who assisted the Lake Sebu community association in applying for the agreement, witnessed the signing rites.
The protected area, which was designated as such by Presidential Proclamation No. 2455, allowed the implementation of a community-based program in its sustainable use, multiple use, or buffer zones consistent with the ancestral domain management plan pursuant to the initial protected area plan.
Under the agreement, the Lake Sebu group shall have the privilege in the use and development of the area subject to the terms and conditions the agreement and Republic Act no. 7586, or the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act.
