The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, sometimes referred to as the Lake Shore, was a major part of the New York Central Railroad's Water Level Route from Buffalo, New York to Chicago, primarily along the south shore of Lake Erie and across northern Indiana.
On April 22, 1833 the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad was chartered in the Territory of Michigan to run from Toledo on Lake Erie northwest to Adrian on the River Raisin.
On December 22, 1914 the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad merged with the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway to form a new New York Central Railroad.

It was pointed out to me today by David Korkhouse (of South Bend) that the LAKE SHORE LIMITED and the CAPITOL LIMITED have been having timekeeping problems through there in recent weeks, running between 1-1/2 and 3 hours behind schedule.
Unfortunately, this decision has to be made while the LAKE SHORE LIMITED is between Toledo (5:40 AM EDT) and South Bend (7:01 AM EST) if the train is on time.
Since this is 15 minutes after the Chicago-area people should have boarded their outbound South Shore train, I will have to inform them much sooner than that, like after we have passed Toledo.
