The biggest hydro-graphical value is Vistytislake, located in the middle of the hilly surroundings next to the 400-year-old town of Vistytis which has preserved its original structure perfectly.
Biologically, the main value of Vistytis Regional Park are the mature broadleaf forests, especially the mixed stands of oak, horn beam and lime trees.
Vistytis town square and street network of the central part of town are urban monuments.
The name of the Viðtytis Lake has been many time mentioned in chronicles of the Teutonic Order since the 14th century.
The town must have received the name from the lake (that means "chicken") and was built in the beginning of the 16th century during the colonization of southern territories in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
On the other hand nobody denied a hypothesis the old Prussians or the Sudovians might have settled around fleeing from the Teutonic crusaders in the 15th century as dialect of town dwellers slightly differs from the rest dialect group in Southern Lithuania.

Vistytis regional park is located on the borders of Poland and Kaliningrad region, with the purpose of preserving natural, cultural, and recreational areas in south-western Lithuania.
The region’s plains are fertile, and the woodlands of this flat region, though not large, occupy more than half of the park.
The 400-year-old town of Vistytis has preserved its original structure perfectly and along LakeVistytis there are campsites available.
When the Russian Duma (parliament) will ratify the border treaty Lithuania will lease 525 ha (31,6%) of the Lake of Vištytis for at least 49 years, and the boundary will follow the western map boundary, according to an agreement signed 24 Oct 1997.
To visit their parents they need to go through the border post in Kybartai, 24 km north of Vistytis, to wait in the lines often lasting for five to six hours to be let in to Russia, and then go some 38 km on Russian roads to get practically back to Lithuania.
