Lamar County is a county of the State of Alabama.
Jones County was established on February 4, 1867, from Marion County, named for E. Jones of Fayette County, with its county seat at Vernon.
In the county the population is spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 27.70% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64, and 15.90% who are 65 years of age or older.
