	Lambada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Lambada is a dance which became internationally popular in the 1980s.
		The association of Lambada and Dirty Dancing/Forbidden Dance became quite extensive, mostly due to the 1990 movie Lambada, although the people who dance this rhythm in Brazil and everywhere else prefer to define it as a sensual and romantic dance rather than erotic.
		As the Lambada traveled through and down the north-east coast of Brazil reaching Bahia, it began receiving some influences from the forró, until it finally became a 4-beated dancing style, which was definitively different from the original Carimbó.

		The Lambada tribe is the largest in Andhra Pradesh and is politically neglected and economically challenged.
		The issues that have caused the practice of female infanticide amongst this tribe are low status of women in society, poverty, lack of education/training and lack of medical facilities.

		One can argue that it is a milestone in the history of lambada in the UK, as it seems quite clear that this is the first time that a fl couple has ever won a competition - as opposed to a mixed couple.
		If this is true then it is great news for lambada indeed, as on asking around no-one seems to know of any other fl couples who have won competitions, and my own recollections are of mixed or white couples at past competitions who have been winners.
