Lamborghini is putting its best foot forward for the Frankfurt Motor Show this September with the Gallardo SE, a "Special Edition" of the now popular mid-engine all-wheel drive supercar.
Where most Lamborghinis have been fitted with a V12, the smaller Gallardo makes use of a 5.0-litre, 500-horsepower V10; it's the first non-V12 to be wedged between the tail lamps of a 'bull' since the last V8-powered Jalpa rolled off the production line in 1988.
Lamborghini has not specified how many units will be sent to North America, however, given that sales of the baby bull are high, we figure at least 50 of the 250 will end up on this side of the Atlantic.

Gallardo, pronounced 'ga:yrdo', the official name for Lamborghini's previously codenamed L140, is once again a lot of bull.
For instance, the Gallardo uses an aluminum spaceframe, just like the Audi A8, while its outer panels are almost entirely constructed of the lightweight metal, allowing it to weigh in at a slight 1,430 kg (3,153 lb), a full 225 kg (497 lb) lighter than the 1,655 kg (3,650 lb) Murcilago.
Word has it the new Lamborghini will move the brand further up the civility scale too, with greater comfort and more everyday practicality than previous models, if a two-seat 300 km/h supercar can be considered practical at all.

Lamborghini lured Greco back into the corporate world three years ago to help revive the once-proud sports car titan.
