Reflecting on the 60’s Motown collaboration with the Holland’s, Dozier says that he and the Hollands had no idea in the '60s what impact their songs were having on America, they were too busy cranking them out.

That ole' Motown magic (September 14, 2001)
Lamont Dozier became inspired to write the opening lines for "I Can't Help Myself" from his grandfather, an Alabama native who often used the expression when flirting with the fairer sex.
Back then, Dozier would typically work at the piano, writing both the music and the lyrics, producing the songs and arranging background vocals for the artists; Brian would co-write melodies and co-produce, along with handling the engineering chores; Eddie would co-write the lyrics.
Now an Encino resident, Dozier is currently recording his old hits for a new album, entitled "Reflections." Due in early 2002, it will take the songs that became jukebox and dance classics and re-arrange them as love-struck slow ballads -- the way he originally conceived them.

For some reason P-Vine Records subtitled this "The New Lamont Dozier Album," a misleading title since these tracks were first released on Invictus Records as by Holland & Dozier.
Dozier doesn't even lead "Slipping Away" -- Holland does, but the best tracks, "Why Can't We Be Lovers" and "New Breed Kinda Woman," are classic Dozier.
Though he later had a few hits on ABC Records, Dozier recorded his most accessible music while at Invictus under the artistry of Holland & Dozier; Eddie Holland, strangely, never sung with the duo, despite having some acclaim as a solo artist before these '70s recordings.
