Lanark Highlands is a new municipality created in 1998 by the amalgamation of the Village of Lanark, Township of Lanark, Township of Darling and the Township of Lavant, Dalhousie and North Sherbrooke.
According to the 1996 Census, the population of Lanark Highlands is 4,629.
Lanark Highlands is dotted with several dozen lakes, of which Dalhousie, Patterson, Stump, Flower Round and Clyde are the most notable.

The Lanark County Ambulance Service (operated by the Almonte General Hospital) is the sole Service Provider providing ambulance services within the County of Lanark, and provides 24-hour pre-hospital BLS emergency and non-emergency care and transportation to and between hospitals for individuals experiencing injury or illness since September 1st, 2000.
We additionally have an Emergency Response Vehicle for Lanark Highlands which is staffed Monday thru Friday 8:00 -16:00 hrs.
Jim has served and continues to serve on many EMS and community committees and boards as a former Director of the Board of the Ontario Ambulance Operators Association and currently a member of the Ontario EMS Directors.

They began the long weary trip to the Lanark Settlement on foot, camping out in the open for the want of other shelter, until at last they reached Heron's Mills, a seven-mile distant from the chosen lot.
The Heron family hospitality (East half of Lot 10 Con 3) offered shelter of their bush shack.
It is from the union of these two families that many persons born in the Lanark County region are true decedents of some of the Lanark Highlands first settlers.
