Lancia ran through the Greek alphabet with the 3117cc Beta (1909), followed by the similar Gamma (1910) and the 4082cc Delta (1911).
At the end of 1929, Lancia introduced the more conventional DiLambda, with a 3960cc V-8, and in 1931 replaced the Lambda with the 1925cc ohc V-4 Artena and the 2605cc V-8 Astura (later models were of 2972cc).
Appia as the smallest car in the Lancia range in 1964; by the end of the decade it was available with 1216cc and 1298cc engines.

The tragedies of the 1985 season affected Lancia particularly, as two of its works personnel were killed in Corsica at the wheel of an S4: Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto.
However, Lancia has since proved that the production Delta can win World Championship rallies, a 250 bhp version of the HF 4WD dominating the 1987 series after Group B was outlawed internationally at the close of 1986.
From the autumn of 1985, Lancia made the 200 S4s necessary to qualify for Group B competition, and a street version of this two-seater competition cocktail went on sale to the public.

But this was not chosen for the new 1972 Lancia, due to the obvious confusion it might cause with a certain Milanese competitor called Alfa Romeo.

While it is one of the most popular lines ever produced by Lancia it really failed to establish itself in the American market and has never held its value as well as other Lancia.
When FIAT purchased Lancia in a State approved buyout the “Lancisti” fell flat on their faces and apparently cried a river that poor Lancia would never be the same and quickly wrote off the Beta as some sort of re-skinned FIAT devoid of all the qualities that made Lancia a Grand marque.
Meanwhile the folks at Lancia (yes, they didn’t all die and disappear with the FIAT buyout) had developed the Beta with Rallye racing in mind too.

The Flaminia was the first Lancia designed by Antonio Fessia and was the flagship of the range when launched in 1957.
Pininfarina had designed and built a series of show cars on the Aurelia chassis called the "Florida." They had clean, somewhat transatlantic styling, which gave a more modern look to the big Lancia, and were the basis for the new Flaminia sedan and a four-seater coupe built by Pininfarina.
