		Lancing College is a leading co-educational English Public School (fee-paying independent school) founded in 1848 by the Rev.
		The College of St Mary and St Nicholas (as it was originally known) was intended for the sons of upper middle classes, professional men; in time this became Lancing College, moving to its present site in 1857.
		Lancing College is one of the elite public schools in Britain, and its examination results show that it continues to perform well.

		Lancing went out of the FA Cup by 4-0 at Haywards Heath (they were to play in five cup competitions during the season and fall at the first hurdle each time).

		The track alongside Lancing Ring may be of Neolithic origin - circa 4,000 - 2,000 BC - a branch of the ridgeway from Beachy Head to Cissbury/Chanctonbury Ring and westward through Hampshire to Salisbury Plain.
		Prior to World War II, the downs from Lancing to Sompting were unfenced wide open spaces but during the war the Agricultural Board ploughed every bit of land could get their hands on for corn and the downland has remained under cultivation ever since apart from the Public Open Space south of the Ring.
		In 1949 the Trustees of Lancing College sold this area to then Worthing Rural District Council to be a permanent Public Open Space for the people of Lancing.
