Donald Campbell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Campbell was born in Horley, Surrey, as the son of Sir Malcolm Campbell.
Campbell began speed record attempts using his father's old boat Bluebird K4, but after a 156 mph (250 km/h) crash destroyed the K4 in 1951 he developed a new boat.
But his land record was short-lived, because rule changes meant that Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America soon set new records.

Nevertheless, their albums between 1981 and 1987 have proven remarkably influential; they provided the sonic blueprint for the roaring punk-pop hybrid that crossed over into the mainstream in the early '90s.
In 1981, they released their first single, "Statues," on the local label Reflex, which was quickly followed by their debut album, Land Speed Record [+], which was released on New Alliance Records.
Zen Arcade [+] was a double album -- something that was completely unheard of in the underground -- that showed the band stretching out musically, writing sharper pop songs, as well as lengthy abrasive instrumentals.

Recorded after Metal Circus, Husker Du’s incredibly intense take on The Byrds’ classic-to-begin-win “Eight Miles High” is simply essential, arguably the greatest single thing they ever did and among the top handful of greatest cover songs of all-time.
This is the album that set the indie community in an uproar, being as it was Husker Du’s major label debut (granted, such a practice is commonplace today but back then it was a big deal, believe me).
On the album's first and best song, Mould states “these are your important years, you’d better make them last,” and this album was the culmination of five astonishingly productive years, during which time the band ensured that their years together would leave a lasting impression.

Their records are always presented in beautiful packaging, very limited press runs and each one has never failed to fill me with wonder at some of the most mysterious and compelling sounds I have ever heard.
This album was recorded throughout 1989, and represents an extremely creative period for Robin Storey and company (none of the members are actually named on this release).

Metal Circus is also one of those rare albums where the album art perfectly captures the sound of the music, as Husker Du's sound on this EP can easily be described as hues of gray, white and silver.
The album was recorded in a one-take fashion, allowing only for vocals and a few guitar lines to be overdubbed.
The first half of the album tends to be more of their older "ultracore" style, with Bob Mould and Grant Hart both hollering out vocals like manic sideshow freaks.
