Zarahemla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The city of Zarahemla was named after a man by the same name who was present in Zarahemla when Mosiah discovered it.
Zarahemla's descendants include Ammon of Zarahemla, who led the quest to find those who had gone in search of Lehi-Nephi and King Coriantumr, who led the Lamanites in battle against the Nephites.
The location of Zarahemla (and surrounding lands) is not specified nor implied by official doctrine of the LDS Church.

The land northward is interesting because Mormon indicates that they have possession of all the land northward, even north of Bountiful, which appears to be the northernmost land of their possession at this time.
As an adjacent land, at least some of the land attached to the new city of Lehi appears to have been taken from lands that the city of Morianton had claimed as their own territory.
Zarahemla also lent his name to his city, and it retained that name even after the Nephites came and took over the leadership of the city and eventually the greater land.

For behold, the people who possessed the land of Morianton did claim a part of the land of Lehi; therefore there began to be a warm contention between them, insomuch that the people of Morianton took up arms against their brethren, and they were determined by the sword to slay them.
He states that "A great deal of land on either side of this ridge is flooded periodically, as much as 12 feet deep during the rainy season." I find this explanation, where floodwaters are called seas, quite unsatisfying—especially since the floodwaters are on the north and on the south of this proposed narrow pass.

As for the land of Colombia and Zarahemla, even post-flood, the civilization effects upon the land's topology would be minimal, as the Jaredites associated with the Olmec, left the land south as a primitive and natural land.
The land surrounding this major city was called the Land of Zarahemla, though it was like most counties of today and would have had cities such as Minon, towns and villages within the land's 'county'boundries.

The land of Zarahemla is a meeting place for two Book of Mormon peoples, both apparently fleeing their homelands.
The probable cultural and historical ties between the people of Zarahemla and the Jaredites (who appear to have been in the Olmec area) comes from both the presence of Jaredite names in Zarahemla and the presence of at least one important Jaredite, Coriantumr.
This suggests that the land of Zarahemla should have cultural associations with the Olmec area, that they would have had a writing system, and that the common spoken language by 160 A.D. would have been Zoque.

The original expedition had found evidence that the ancient Book of Mormon city of Zarahemla might still exist somewhere in the jungle, but transmissions were cut off abruptly before the location of the city was pinpointed.
