As a member of Argonne’s Material Theory Institute, Feldman took part in theoretical and experimental research efforts in condensed matter physics – the study of matter at larger-than-atomic scales.
“Intellectually, condensed matter physics lies between mathematics and chemistry,” says Feldman, who is a native of Chernogoloka, a Moscow suburb that is the center of chemistry studies for the Russian Academy of Science.
Feldman’s physics research focus areas, which include soft condensed matter, strongly correlated electrons, quantum and classical phase transitions, and disordered systems, neatly match this early environment and an interest in mathematics.

 Labo J.-V.Poncelet: S.Nechaev
This is clearly illustrated by the statistical physics of macromolecules, which arose due to the interpenetration of the solid state physics, statistical physics, and biophysics.
Great interest to this topic is obviously caused by its significance in studying such physical chemistry problems as photoconductivity and photosynthesis, kinetics of binding biopolymers with ligands, and adsorption of polymer molecules on surfaces with chemically active regions and on colloidal particles in solutions and gels.
Rapid development of statistical physics of macromolecules is indebted, in first turn, to the representation of linear polymers by Markov chains.

 Physics Event Abstract
The main cosmological constant problem consists of two independent items: (i) what is the magnitude of the vacuum energy; and if it is big as suggested by summation of energies of zero-point motion then (ii) why this huge energy is not gravitating.
Depending on the class of the quantum liquid, the emergent QFT can be relativistic or non-relativistic, with emergent gravity or without, but in all the classes the `trans-Planckian' physics suggests the universal result for the vacuum energy.
In the equilibrium homogeneous vacuum, the large contribution of the zero-point energies of sub-Planckian modes to the vacuum energy is exactly cancelled by the microscopic trans-Planckian (atomic) degrees of freedom without any fine-tuning.
