Ogden, the key to Landgrove's turnaround, was a real estate agent who bought seven dilapidated houses and two barns in the village of Landgrove in 1929 and moved up to Vermont with his wife.
Many who have lived in Vermont all their lives have never even heard of the town, which is located in northern Bennington County, just west of Weston.
Exhibits at the old schoolhouse, which is now the town hall, show dozens of photos from those times, at the annual Fourth of July parade, and at the tennis court, which was installed at the center of the village by Samuel Ogden and is now maintained, with a small clubhouse, as the town tennis club.
