The Principality of Liechtenstein (German: Fürstentum Liechtenstein) is a tiny, landlocked state in Western Europe, bordered by Switzerland to its west and by Austria to its east.
It is on this date that Liechtenstein became a sovereign state of the Holy Roman Empire.
Liechtenstein is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world; i.e., a landlocked country surrounded by other landlocked countries.

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small, landlocked state in the north-west of continental Europe, bordered by France, Germany and Belgium.
The king of the Netherlands remained head of state until 1890, when Luxembourg gained a grand duke of its own.
A second body, the "Conseil d'État" (Council of State), composed of 21 ordinary citizens appointed by the Grand Duke, advises the Chamber of Deputies in the drafting of legislation.
