A distinction can be made by studying and understanding the sequence of sediments and surfaces on the local landscape, as well as by studying soil properties.

Murderous landslips and mudslides induced by UFOs (in English)
The very process of technical initiation of landslips and mudslides by UFO vehicles, is initiated through a landing of a UFO vehicle on a slope of hill from which a given landslip or mudslide is to be released later.
The landslip (landslide) shown on the upper photograph (a) represents a typical appearance of a slope of hill along which a natural avalanche of soil passed, caused by the erosion of the soil or the excess of water.
As I deduced by analysing later this landslip, the bang was caused by the tearing by the UFO vehicle a large lump of the native rock from the mountain bedrock.

 LANDSLIP WARNING
A landslip warning will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory whenever the Geotechnical Engineering Office expects a high chance of many landslips as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.
The Warning is aimed at predicting the occurrence of numerous landslips, and isolated landslips which cannot be predicted will occur from time to time in response to less severe rainfall when the Warning is not in force.
On the issuance of such a warning, a Landslip Special Announcement will be sent to the local radio and television stations for broadcast to the public and the announcement will be updated at regular intervals until the likelihood of landslips has diminished.

Erosion and Lanslip picture gallery of The Isle of Wight.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Landslips are normally quite small and this coastline has taken hundreds of years to form this way.
The park is constructed on the crest and down a relatively steep hill that in itself has cliffs some 300 feet high at the coastal edge as seen in the picture opposite.
This adds to the cost of running a theme park in such a location but it does mean that when visitors pay a return visit a year of so later some parts of the park almost certainly will have changed, and routes around the park have to change as well.

First, the Commission identified the probable path of the landslip, in which there were 15 houses.
Second, earth stop-banks were created to divert the landslip into an unoccupied gully and further stop-banks were placed around one property directly in the probable path of the slip.
The cost of undertaking this work was about 20% of the expected cost had no action been taken and the landslip allowed to take its natural course.

A second type of landslip, the most usual, is like the third but is a shallow slip with the slip circle close to the sloping edge.
The third form of landslip in clay is a more deep-seated type of movement in which the soil slips, often along the arc of a circle of similar failure plane.
If part of the house in question, or whatever structure is involved, is founded on the top part of the failure zone, then there will be a reduction in support of that part of the structure with consequential cracking and possibly eventual collapse.

The Hindu : Geological stress could have triggered landslip
The initial version was that the landslip was triggered by a newly-constructed road across the middle of the hill.
The scientists assume that the houses caught in the landslip were located in the natural drainage through the slip line of the fracture.
The scientists maintain that slope studies should be accompanied by monitoring of the earth structure and compression loads on various types of rocks for identification of landslip prone areas.

The landslip continues to be active, displaying episodic and creep movements that led to the closure in 1979 of the Manchester to Sheffield highway (A625) where it was built across the landslip in 1810.
The present study aimed to monitor the creep motions within the landslip over a period of several years, and to investigate how those movements are distributed throughout the slipped mass.

Somewhat away from the virtual pasture, I have been taking an interest in local coastal landslips starting in the winter of 2000-2001.
The landslips occur when water saturates the soft shales, which become greasy and allow the harder limestones to ski over them and down onto the beach, taking trees, grass, and shrubs with them.
