The Lane Cove River is a tributary of the Parramatta River and its lower reaches form an arm of Sydney Harbour, Australia.
The Lane Cove River rises near Thornleigh and flows generally south for about 15 km.
The lower reaches of the Lane Cove River are tidal and merge into Sydney Harbour at Greenwich and Hunters Hill.

The long-term answer is to have more police at Lane Cove so that when such difficulties arise people do not feel threatened and they can be comforted knowing that the police are able to respond and that the response will be adequate and quick.
That will reassure the community, not just my staff, that police presence in Lane Cove will be maintained, service delivery will be as good as it was prior to the restructure and at the end of the day everyone will live in what they are hoping to live in: a safer community.
I noted that the honourable member for Lane Cove concluded by saying that the parliamentary security staff were able to assist her.

Lane Cove Tunnel The proposed Lane Cove Tunnel project will provide the important connection between the M2 Motorway and the Gore Hill Freeway which forms part of the Sydney Orbital Network.
The westbound tunnel would be three lanes almost its entire length, with two lanes from the beginning of the tunnel and a third lane beginning for traffic entering from the Pacific Highway.
Construction of retaining walls and bridge foundations is underway at the Lane Cove River Bridge, which is being widened to facilitate traffic access to the western portal of the tunnel.

Planning approval for Lane Cove Tunnel was granted by the NSW Minister for Planning in December 2002.
On 1 October 2003, the Minister for Roads announced that the Lane Cove Tunnel Consortium (sponsored by Thiess Pty Limited, John Holland Pty Limited, Transfield Holdings Pty Limited and ABN AMRO), was the preferred consortium to design, build, maintain and operate the Lane Cove Tunnel.
The westbound tunnel will be three lanes for almost its entire length, with two lanes from the beginning of the tunnel on the Gore Hill Freeway with a continuous third lane from the connection of the Pacific Highway entry ramp traffic with the main tunnel.

Bus priority lanes will be provided along Epping Road and transit lanes on the widened Gore Hill Freeway from the M2 at the Lane Cove River to the Warringah Freeway.

The geology of the Lane Cove River Catchment consists of Hawkesbury Sandstone overlain by thin layers of Wianamatta Shale along the northern ridges of the catchment.
Lane Cove (lc) soils: are deep (>200 cm) and occur on level to gently undulating alluvial floodplain draining both the Wianamatta Shale and Hawkesbury Sandstone.
This system was chosen because Hornsby Shire Council and Lane Cove National Park have also mapped their vegetation condition using this system, and collectively these three areas cover the majority of bushland within the Lane Cove River catchments.

Thiess John Holland has in turn been contracted by the Lane Cove Tunnel Company to design and construct the Lane Cove Tunnel and associated works.

A tunnel under the national park, rather than a bridge over it, is now proposed.
"This would not impact on Lane Cove National Park, provide a more efficient, faster alternative to reach the city from the west, and better serve the expanding employment areas of Artarmon, West Lane Cove Industrial Area, St Leonards and North Sydney.
