The Lane Cove River rises near Thornleigh and flows generally south for about 15 km.

Lane Cove National Park consists of 600ha of important remnant bushland along the upper valley of the Lane Cove River in Sydney's northern metropolitan area.
The Master Plan for Callan Park has just been released which, while it retains the heritage buildings, and provides for much of the site to be declared open space, also allows a substantial part of the site to be developed for housing.
The National Trust of New South Wales is concerned that a major redevelopment involving multi-storey buildings at the rear of Tempe House will trivialise the house and its setting.

 Cycling Lane Cove National Park
The most frequently cycled route here, which is the only one I've tried, is a road that runs southeast to northwest on the southern side of the Lane Cove river.
 At the southeastern end of the park, it is possible to cross to the other side of the river either by means of a causeway (1) or by exiting and re-entering the park (2).
The main road is probably too noisy for wildlife, however the much lower, less utilised road running from the eastern entry (2) to a walking track (3) has many roadside lizards (and possibly a snake or two).

Roads from Windsor Road to park are all bitumen two lane country roads.
The beauty of this park is that if you are travelling from north on the east coast it is quite accessible without having to deal with a lot of traffic.
The park does not have an obvious management presence or family run atmosphere, but the staff were friendly and efficient.

The fire threatening Lane Cove began on New Year's Day in the dense 400-hectare (988 acres) Pennant Hills Park bush reserve.
The city prides itself on its pleasant environment, with extensive bushlands and parks close to the center of town, particularly on the northern side of the harbor where the fires now rage.

There is a great kiosk at Lane Cove National Park which is giving 10% discount to competitors so grab some lunch or bring a picnic.
The start is at Macquarie University Sports Union, Marsfield and the finish is at the picnic area at Lane Cove National Park near Fullers Bridge, Chatswood West.
Our recommendation: park at Macquarie University ($10 per day right near the start or free parking in the surrounding streets) for the day and ride back from the finish to pick up your car after the presentation.

During 1996, Lynn Rees from Lane Cove National Park', undertook a survey of the 45 councils and related land management agencies in the Greater Sydney Region with respect to bush management in areas within their responsibility.

Lindfield, and its extension to West Lindfield and East Lindfield, is contained within the borders of Stanhope Road, Eastern Arterial Road, Garigal National Park, Archbold, Chelmsford and Waimea Roads to the east of the highway, and Fiddens Wharf Road, and Lane Cove National Park to the west of the highway.
The Lane Cove River was the main transport artery, and early development focused there.

Situated in the beautiful Lane Cove National Park, the Lane Cove 10k winds it way from the Fuller's Bridge entrance to the park right up to the Ryde Road Entrance, visiting the Scribbly Gums Picnic area on the way out, and then comes all the way back again.
The 5km mark which is at the "no parking" sign at the roundabout in front of the rangers house.

The Ornithological Society's first foray into activism was crowned with success: in 1901, at the urging of the young National Audubon Society, it successfully lobbied the Maine Legislature to pass the American Ornithologists' Union's "Model Law," protecting all nongame birds, nests, and eggs.
In 1921 the society counted 6000 visitors, a proud vote of approval from a city whose population was barely 30,000.

The National Parks Association of NSW is concerned about plans announced today to tunnel under Land Cove River within Lane Cove National Park.
"This would not impact on Lane Cove National Park, provide a more efficient, faster alternative to reach the city from the west, and better serve the expanding employment areas of Artarmon, West Lane Cove Industrial Area, St Leonards and North Sydney.
A tunnel under the national park, rather than a bridge over it, is now proposed.
