I found Vigan proper to be very resistent to the gospel, but did succeed in planting a church in the small village of Mabongtot in Abra province in 1988.
During these years I led in starting the church in Mabongtot, Langiden, Abra, and in developing an in-service training program, Northern Institue of Christian Education.
During this time I led in establishing 6 new churches: Bangued, Abra; San Fernando, La Union; and La Trinidad, Km.

But this year, the Abra river has dumped gravel and silt or simply washed out fertile soil from the province' corn areas which are situated near the river.
The destruction of the corn lands by the Abra river during strong rains was attributed by the municipal agriculturists to the forest denudation activities upstream.
