In 1776 a portion of the Langside estate was purchased from Robert Crawford of Possil by Dr Thomas Brown (d 1782), who had made his fortune in London and had become a partner in the Ship Bank in 1775.
It was inherited by three of his sons in turn: the last of them, also Dr Thomas (d 1853) was a physician and surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Langside Library opened in 1915, the last of the Carnegie libraries to be built in the city but the first to be designed on the principle of open access.

The Battle of Langside was fought in 1568 between the forces of Mary, Queen of Scots and those of the Regent Moray.
Moray managed to position his troops on Langside Hill, while Mary`s troops were on the lesser Clincart Hill (now the site of Langside College),1km (½ mile) to the east.
A plaque explains that the battle of Langside was fought on this ground on 13 May 1568 between the forces of Mary Queen of Scots and the Regent Moray, and marked the queen`s final defeat in Scotland.

The Langside Mountaineering Club meets every Wednesday evening at the Camphill Bowling club in Queens Park, Shawlands, Glasgow at 9-9.30pm.
For these were the days when you could not join a climbing club unless you could climb; a sort of Catch 22, for the up and coming Messners, Cunninghams and Bonningtons of their day.
Nowadays, things are different and few Climbing clubs have a pre-requisite for new members to climb to a certain standard, but the Langside Mountaineering Club still adheres to its tradition of having experienced members willing to pass on the advice and skills they have learned.

The original village of Langside survived until the mid-1890s when it was replaced by tenement housing.
