For centuries up to the commencement of the Second World War the vast majority of working men of the villages of Langton Matravers and Worth Matravers were employed in the stone industry, within sight of the royal fortress of Corfe Castle which through the centuries connected the area with great events of national history.
The case became somewhat famous as the Rector of Langton Matravers, the Revd.
She died in 1956 aged 86 and was buried in the Old Cemetery at Langton Matravers on July 14th 1956.

South east Dorset and the Isle of Purbeck must be one of the most picturesque and beautiful parts of England, particularly in May. I welcome any excuse to visit it, and such an excuse was provided by an invitation by the Southern Group of the Club.
This now holds an annual meeting in the little village of Langton Matravers, ably organised by Derek Stevens.
I arrived at just after 10o/c to find the Village Hall already filling up nicely; many familiar faces were present, including the Bingleys, Ken and Bette Jones, as well as many who are unable to get to the Natural History Museum, such as Derek himself, Brian Darnton, Dick Speight, Klaus Kemp and many others.
