The Lansingburgh Academy was a seminary in Lansingburgh in the U.S. state of New York just north of the city of Troy from the late 18th century to 1900, when the building was leased, and later sold, to the local public school district, used initially as a high school.
On December 24, 1795, a group of prominent Lansingburgh residents petitioned the Regents of the State of New York for a charter, for the purpose of establishing a Seminary of Learning to be called The Lansingburgh Academy.
In 1900 (the year Lansingburgh was annexed by the city of Troy), the trustees of the Academy leased the building with its equipment and a fine library for a period of ten years to the Lansingburgh Free School District No. 1, to be used as a high school.

1790 – the population of Troy was estimated as 150; that for the village of Lansingburgh as 599.
1800 -  population of Troy was 1,802; Lansingburgh’s was 1,200.
Lansingburgh’s trade and transportation facilities had stiff competition from Troy, increasing difficulties with obstruction in the channel of the Hudson River, and the opening of the Erie Canal to the south diverted much of the shipping.

The town of Lansingburgh is located on the western border of the county, north of the city of Troy and south of the town of Schaghticoke.
The Lansingburgh academy was chartered by the Regents of the University February 20, 1796, in response to a petition signed December 24, 1795, by influential residents of the village.
Lansingburgh was visited by its first serious fire Sunday, July 9, 1843, when nearly two entire blocks in the central part of the village were destroyed.

 Lansingburgh Academy
In 1900 the trustees of the Academy leased the building with its equipment and a fine library for a period of ten years to the Lansingburgh Free School District No. 1, to be used as a high school.
The project was completed in 1980 and, after a brief stay at the Methodist Church, the library reopened in its new quarters.
As a result of the Association's efforts, in 1938 the[Board of Education voted to give use of a small room in the former Lansingburgh Academy for a branch of the Troy Public Library, and to furnish the necessary heat, light and custodial service.
