Bukidnon is a landlocked province of the Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region.
According to oral history of the indigenous people of Bukidnon, there were four main tribes in Central Mindanao: the Maranao who dwell in Lanao del Sur, and the Maguindanao, Manobo and Talaandig who respectively inhabit the eastern, southern, and north-central portions of the original province of Cotabato.
Bukidnon became a regular province on March 10, 1917 by virtue of the creation of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu under Act 2711.

LANTAPAN, BUKIDNON -- At the foothills of Mt. Kaatoan in this town, an estimated 717.76 hectares of cinchona tree plantation can be found.
In 1926, Arthur Fischer, director of the Bureau of Forestry, initiated the establishment of a cinchona plantation in Bukidnon.
The cinchona plantation was established in the towns of Impasugong and Lantapan, all in Bukidnon.

LANTAPAN, BUKIDNON — On the 11th of each month, Talaandig tribesfolk and farmers belonging to the citizens volunteer group Tigbantay Wahig (Water Watchers) troop down to this town’s four main rivers to collect water samples and conduct chemical tests.
Lantapan residents were trained on the principles of watershed management.
Through good times and through bad, Clave drops his chores at the 11th of each month to join his fellow Tigbantay Wahig members, trooping to the rivers passing through their mountain town and praying that the elemental spirits will guide them to a better future.

To conduct a feasibility study for the extension of the Lantapan model of community-based water monitoring through an NGO network in SE Asia.
The group began planning for a 9-day workshop to be held in Lantapan in September 1999 for HPI Directors and Staff, with the potential of greatly extending the SANREM Landscape/Lifescape approach and community-based environmental assessments (particularly as this relates to livestock projects) throughout Southeast Asia and globally.
The municipal government, through the Natural Resource Management Council, is also using the TW model and approaches in developing “chapters” in the different barangays to strengthen and institutionalize the monitoring of community natural resources.

As PCEEM Davao is actively involved (together with its members--11 sectoral groups and six national and local government mandated agencies) in the sustainable management of the watersheds in Davao City, particularly in the Talomo-Lipadas Watershed, PCEEM also finds it wise to experience and learn other initiatives outside its area.
The neighboring province of Bukidnon was chosen because of its proximity and similarity of conditions.

 Decentralization and Devolution of Forest Management in Asia and the Pacific
The NRMDP was adopted by the Lantapan Sangguniang Bayan (Legislative Council) in March 1998, and is the first of its kind in the Philippines.
ICRAF is maintaining a strong partnership with the local government to help achieve mutual goals and benefits for the farmers of Lantapan, through collaboration with the LGU in institutional development and working directly with the farmers on technology development, dissemination, and adoption.
It will be important to link the Lantapan plan with the Ancestral Domain Management Plan, the Mt. Kitanglad National Park Management Plan, as well as with other municipalities in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental Provinces which are currently developing their own plans.

Weak, stressed, and with a gunshot wound on the left side of its neck, a juvenile Philippine Eagle was rushed to Davao City from Bukidnon yesterday following yet another shooting incident that continues to threaten the population of the endangered national bird.
Volunteer Jelson Digbas had reportedly seen the eagle being kept in a chicken cage in a house in Barangay Kaatuan in Lantapan, Bukidnon.
The wound on the eagle’s neck seemed fresh, prompting Digbas and his fellow volunteers Jacinto Cambari and Emeliano Lumiston to contact Lantapan Mayor Narciso Rubio who arranged for an ambulance to bring the eagle to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office in Malaybalay.

Every year, the Bukidnon and Talaandig people in many places celebrate their community ceremony pangampû to improve their relationship with their highest God Magbabaya.
Before the proper pangampû ceremony, the people of Kalasungay usually go to the “stone palace.” This is a big boulder in the shape of a boat, right on top of a hill, at some hundred meters’ distance from the location where the actual pangampû is performed.
PANAMIN (“Presidential Assistant for the National Minorities”) had organized this special pangampû at their office in Cagayan de Oro to initiate Col. Navarro, the former provincial commander of the Philippine Constabulary of Bukidnon province, as a “traditional” Bukidnon datu.
