a lanthanide series compound which is not modified selected from the group consisting of an oxide and a carbonate in an amount between about 1 and 20 weight percent based on the combined amount of catalyst, base and lanthanide compound and being a powder having a particle size of between about 5 and 10 microns.
A lanthanide series compound is added to the inventive composite dental cement composition in order to interact with the polymer matrix (to push out air voids or to form a copolymerlike composition) for increasing compressive strength of the resulting composition, and for increasing wear of the overall inventive composition.

lanthanide series. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
Members of the series are often called lanthanides, although lanthanum (atomic number 57) is not always considered a member of the series.
The series always includes the 14 elements with atomic numbers 58 through 71, which are (in order of increasing atomic number) cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, and lutetium.
The lanthanides have similiar sizes so that any given compound of the rare earths is likely to crystallize with the same structure as any other rare earth; however, the lattice parameters become smaller and the crystal denser as compounds proceed across the series.

The lanthanide metal can be any element selected from the lanthanide series including elements selected from the group consisting of yttrium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, and combinations thereof.
When the dopant is a lanthanide element, the dopant typically is selected from the group consisting of yttrium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, and combinations thereof.

Properties of the Lanthanides - Element Chemistry
The lanthanides are a subset of rare earth metals, located in block 5d of the periodic table.
The lanthanides are not as rare as was once thought; even the scarce rare earths (e.g., europium, lutetium) are more common than the platinum-group metals.
Several of the lanthanides may be formed during the fission of uranium and plutonium.

actinide series, a series of radioactive metallic elements in group IIIb of the periodic table.
It is known, however, that all members of the series resemble actinium and each other in their chemical properties and that they have a strong chemical resemblance to their homologs in the lanthanide series.
Elements with atomic numbers greater than 103 are not members of the actinide series; element 104 (rutherfordium) is the first of the transactinide elements.

 Lanthanide Complexes Computational Chemistry
Sparkle/AM1 and Sparkle/PM3 are computational chemistry models which exploit the lanthanide series characteristics to accurately predict geometries of the coordination polyhedra of complexes of ions of the rare earth metals.
Due to the lanthanide series properties, knowledge of these geometries is essential for ligand field theory applications to complexes of lanthanides, especially for luminescence research.
Sparkle/AM1 is present in the fortran 90 version of MOPAC 7 by openmopac.net for the trivalent lanthanide series ions.

We conclude from these observations that reports of nearly indistinguishable CD/EF binding site affinities for parvalbumin complexes of the middle-weight lanthanides (i.e., Eu3+, Gd3+, and Tb3+) are quite reasonable in view of the crossover in relative CD/EF site affinities across the lanthanide series.
