Talking to a few Lao people they told me that it is rare for westerners to be bumped off flights in favour of locals (because westerners pay more for their tickets).
Lao Airlines appear to own just one Airbus A320 (appears to be an ex Ansett aircraft) and they keep it in spotless condition.
I think that Lao Aviation is making great headways in improving their services and safety and have (I believe) agreements with Thai Airways and Air France to help train staff, maintain the planes etc. In the year since my last flight with them I see great improvements and many positive changes.

Lao Airlines has a bad reputation for safety because of significant safety lapses and crashes in the past.
The one thing I would check with Lao is to make sure you're flying one of the new planes and not one of the old Chinese or Russian planes.
Lao has a terrible reputation and the U.S. State Dept. Consular sheet says not to fly them but we flew them a couple of years ago without incident.

I am going to Laos in three weeks and need a good/relatively cheap place to stay in LP and in the South (Four Thousand Islands) any suggestions would be great.
Please let me know your opinion about the itinerary, and also which places are more unique and interesting, how long would be sensible to stay in each place, how difficult is the trip there and how long it takes to travel between the various countries and to arrive to the various places.
I will be travelling to Laos in November and wonder what is the best way to corss the border to Vietnam.
