Pottery is a form of ceramic technology, where wet (A very fine-grained soil that is plastic when moist but hard when fired) clays are shaped and dried, then fired to harden them and make them waterproof.
The process of making ceramic ware on the potter's wheel can be called "throwing" or "turning." A ball of clay is placed in the center of a turntable, called the wheel head, which is turned chiefly using foot power (a kick wheel or treadle wheel) or a variable speed electric motor.
This is important for functional (Ceramic ware made of porous clay fired at low heat) earthenware vessels, which would otherwise be unsuitable for holding liquids due to porosity.
