	Alumni Spotlight: Larry P. Langford, B.A.
		A Birmingham native who graduated from UAB in 1972 with a B.A. degree in social and behavioral sciences, Langford is serving his third term as mayor of Fairfield, a predominately fl community of 12,200 on Birmingham’s western border.
		Unofficially, Langford serves as both cheerleader and defender for the state of Alabama, as well as for UAB.
		Langford, who believes that government should return to its original purpose of public service, says that he became interested in politics as a leader in student government and later, as a news reporter, when he was exposed to city council meetings in Birmingham and the surrounding municipalities.
