  Larry Lieber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Larry Lieber (born October 26, 1931, New York City, New York) is an American comic book artist and writer, and the younger brother of Marvel Comics' writer/editor/publisher Stan Lee.
Lieber is best known for scripting the first appearances of the Marvel characters Iron Man and Thor; for his long stint both writing and drawing the Marvel Western The Rawhide Kid; and for illustrating the newspaper comic strip The Amazing Spider-Man for many years.
He hired Lieber to be editor of the Atlas fl-and-white comics-magazines, and additionally hired Warren Publishing veteran Jeff Rovin to edit the color comic-book line, which soon fell under Lieber's editorship.

The character was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug. 1962).
Thor often battled his evil adoptive brother Loki, a Marvel character adapted from the Norse god of mischief, and was a member of the superhero group the Avengers.
One element Lieber created in Marvel's Thor mythos was the description of Thor's weapon as the "Uru Hammer"; while the hammer itself was later named Mjolnir, as in Norse mythology, Lieber's made-up "uru" was eventually revealed as the metal from which it was forged.

Lieber recounted how as a boy he visited the offices of Timely Comics (Marvel's former name), where he received a sketch of Captain America and his sidekick Bucky, signed, "Your friend, Joe Simon & Jack Kirby" (the two artists worked as a team in the 1940s and 1950s).
Stan joked that you can tell he didn't come up with it because it's "not alliterative." Lieber said he also invented the name of the mystic metal of which Thor's hammer is composed, "uru." It was "something that wasn't long to letter," Lieber explained.
Lieber's creation of "uru" was so convincing that later Marvel writer Roy Thomas, Lieber said, thought it was "a true thing in legend" but couldn't find any reference to it.

At 12:30, my long-time chum (going on 35 years) Tony Isabella and I ganged-up to interview Larry Lieber, who is invariably referred to as "Stan Lee's brother." He is, of course.
Larry is a fascinating gent and, again, you'll have to wait 'til some magazine prints the transcript to hear all that he said.
But the audience (which included another famous brother, Sal Buscema) was fascinated not only with how erudite Larry was on the subject of doing comics but how honest and self-effacing, as well.

Issue # 2 also sports an interview with Larry Lieber, who besides being Stan Lee's brother and the writer for the Spider-Man comic strip, was also Stan's original scripter for Iron Man and Ant-Man and several of the major Marvel books.
Larry's a very influential Silver Age writer who hasn't received enough attention.
