LARRY PLEAU: Like John said, that first day was just, you know, like all of a sudden we're in the office and that was our goal was that we looked at the roster and we looked at the players that were available, and we had a list and we worked off that list.

While I would have been fine with firing Pleau and starting with a clean slate, Pleau is respected in USA hockey and across the league and there are far worse alternatives then keeping the guy who is most familiar with the franchise and its prospects.
Pleau actually did a good job of building a young team that won the President's Trophy in 1999....it was only at the order of Bill Laurie was he forced to trade away youth for the likes of Tkachuk and Weight....setting the franchise on the course that led to last year's collapse....
Pleau should have not been given the opportunity to be a part of the new direction of the Blues.

In 1968-69, Pleau joined the Eastern Hockey League's Jersey Devils where he finished second in team scoring with (81) points while earning EHL North Rookie of the Year honors and was also a member of the 1969 US World Championship team.
During Pleau's three-year tenure as the general manager with St. Louis, he has gained the respect around the league as one of the most progressive thinking general managers in hockey today.

Pleau served as the assistant general manager of silver medal-winning Team USA at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and was named General Manager for Team USA for the 2003 and 2004 (bronze medal) IIHF World Championships and at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.
Pleau played center/left wing for the Whalers from 1972 until his retirement in 1979 and appeared in 468 regular season games for Hartford, amassing 157 goals and 215 assists for 372 points.
