The Local - Government gives SVT top job to ex-minister
Engqvist and his supporters pointed to his previous experience as a journalist and a leader of large state-owned businesses.
Education and culture minister Leif Pagrotsky praised Engqvist as a person of “great personal integrity”, but others in the media and opposition parties warned that the appointment made a mockery of SVT’s claim to be politically neutral.
"The naming of Lars Engqvist shows clearly that SVT is regime TV and not ‘free television’,” said Johan Forsell, chairman of the Moderate Party’s youth movement.

The Swedish coalition government has banned the privatisation of hospitals, amid fears that the expansion of private health care could destroy the principle of a fair and free public health service.
Health minister Lars Engqvist, a Social Democrat, said that new legislation would end the practise of private patients "buying their way past" hospital waiting lists.
Provincial authorities, which are responsible in Sweden for the local healthcare system, will not be allowed in future to hand over the running of a hospital to a profit making company.

The cuckold in this case is Lars Engqvist, Minister for Health and Social Affairs.
That fact that these hospitals give us more health care for our tax money than their publicly run counterparts has not entered the equation for Lars Engqvist.
This rebuttal, combined with the fact that Engqvist’s ejection from the rose garden is imminent — he becomes County Governor of Jönköping next month — will hopefully spell the end for the Social Democrats’ anachronistic and potentially harmful policy proposal.

While the draft law must still be formally adopted by EU countries and the Parliament, the votes will for the most part be "ceremonial" as the majority of member states and parliamentarians support it, an EU diplomat said.
"We have taken a step forward in the fight against tobacco consumption," Swedish Health and Social Affairs Minister Lars Engqvist said on behalf of the EU.
Once enacted, the new law will prohibit the use of such words as "light" on tobacco packaging because such terms could mislead consumers into believing the products are less dangerous, the statement says.
