Lars Frederiksen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frederiksen is half-Danish (his mother, Minna, was a Danish immigrant) and was raised in Campbell, California, a small town next to San Jose, California.
The sixth track on his 2001 album, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, is titled "Campbell, CA." [1] He is a notable drop out of Westmont High School.
Carbone was also "The Unknown Bastard", on Lars Frederiksen and The Bastards' self-titled LP debut, released on Hellcat Records in 2001.

Amazon.co.uk: Viking: Music: Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
This album sees Lars writing crap songs about knives and the general gansta lifestyle, which is utterly pathetic and the kind of stuff you expect from the worst gansta rap - guns and bitches exponents.
Anyway the sleeve features lars posing doing his best 'hard' face while surrounded by biker babes - he even holds a gun in his hand for some shots - unbelievable, the sheer idiocy and fakery of this album is a tragedy.
Lars has made it clear that he is now in with a huge number of bikers (bikers may disagree with this) but if thats the direction he wants to go then obviously its going to reflect in his lyrics and the way he presents his album.

Montreal Mirror : Music : Lars Frederiksen
Frederiksen is best known as the musical foil to Tim Armstrong in Rancid, and if his side project seems like a product of disharmony in the Rancid camp, nothing could be farther from the truth.
Frederiksen formed the Bastards at Armstrong’s urging after the latter heard stories of his troubled upbringing.
Despite Frederiksen’s graduating with honours from the school of hard knocks, he still recounts his days in Campbell with more joy than relief that he made it out alive.

Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards is the side project band of Lars Frederiksen from Rancid.
The band members are Lars Frederiksen (vocals and lead guitar), Gordy (also credited as "Unknown Bastard") (vocals), Big Jay Bastard (bass), Craig Leg (rhythm guitar) and Scott Abels (also credited as "Skatty Punk Rock") (drums).
Lars and Tim then got together to write the second Bastards album, Viking, this time the focus being more on Lars' recent life (with the exception of the songs "1%", "The Kids Are Quiet on Sharmon Palms" and "The Viking".) after having "got outta Campbell".

Lars Frederiksen played guitar for Rancid, and the Bastards is his side project.
Frederiksen avoids a few conventional punk staples like "President Bush is stupid," "Corporate rock sucks" and "Sk8boardin' is kool!" He sticks with themes like gang violence, racism and prostitution -- things that happen all the time in Realityville, but that most people choose not to know or care about.
Bands like Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Rancid and the Dropkick Murphys prove that some punks aren't just stupid anarchists with green hair that don't know how to play their instruments, but intelligent artists trying to wake people up to important social problems in their community.

Obviously, being in Rancid, Lars' song-writing ability is going to resemble their style big time, but he adds enough personal touches, and takes enough inspiration from his musical influences growing up, that this album is, dare I say it, better than Rancid at times.
Lar's had been in some bands prior to Rancid most notably Aunti Christ which hailed kinda from Olympia, Washington and thanks to Lars also from Campbell, California.
lars did some vocals on their new album, and mark unseen even said in an interview that he loves the rancid song dead bodies, which is sung by lars.

PunkROCKS.net CD Review - Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards - S/T
The liner notes of the album begin with Lars explaining the story behind this side project - basically it is an album paying homage to his old stomping ground, Campbell, CA, and his best friend from back then, who is now passed away.
Lars And The Bastards is 13 songs of street punk goodness not all that different from the music Lars himself grew up listening to, produced with a great old school wax flavor by Lars' sidekick Tim Armstrong.
Lars' plan with the Bastards was to take his old tales from Campbell and set them to music, and they came out remarkably well.

Splendid Magazine reviews Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards: Self-Titled
Of the thirteen songs on this solo debut from Rancid guitarist Lars Frederiksen, the only one that really stands out is "Subterranean".
Frederiksen's punchy, perfunctory delivery makes every track seem as if he's ranting against the state of the world and the problems of capitalism; this is appropriate when the subject matter befits it, but on an album supposedly devoted to songs about his adolescence in Campbell, California, it just sounds sort of silly.
It's unfair to expect Frederiksen to create a magnificent cross-genre opus on his first solo effort, but it would've been nice if the album had featured a little more variation.

Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards 'Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards' (Hellcat/Epitaph)
Presenting the debut of his very own bunch of bastards comes Lars Fredericksen - current six-string slinger with revivalist combo Rancid - with this cathartic, highly autobiographical account of his formative years.
Legions of punkers have accused Fredericksen's mother band of the high profile pilfering of various Brit-punk back catalogues and, to be brutally honest, this album does little to break with that tradition.
One song in and 'Dead American' sees Lars and his illegitimate cohorts already firing-out basic, scuzzy guitar riffs mated to a predictable "Hey, hey, hey" chorus.

Let it never be said that Lars Frederiksen is not the real deal when it comes to being punk rock.
Not only did Armstrong encourage Frederiksen to do this record, he produced and also co-wrote several songs, many of which display the stylistic diversity that Rancid has pulled off with such conviction, but with Frederiksen's very distinct vocal delivery.
With the album hitting the streets next week, Frederiksen is taking advantage of his time off from Rancid to tour.

Yet the influential Rancid have managed to retain their street cred--playing the role of the Rolling Stones to close friends Green Day's Beatles--by turning their back on major-label overtures and cranking out critically acclaimed, street-level, thrash-driven punk that has come more and more to embrace its hardcore edge.
In 2001, Frederiksen--who brings his own band to the Phoenix Theatre this week--released Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, a solo album loosely built around his experiences growing up in Campbell, Calif., and bristling with angry political and social commentary decrying war, drugs and other maladies.

VIKING, the second solo release from Rancid singer/guitar-slinger Lars Frederiksen, backed by his band the Bastards, is stuffed to the gills with in-your-face punk attitude.
The lyrical subject matter never waxes too philosophical, as Frederiksen's themes are primarily limited to weapons ("Switchblade"), fighting ("Fight"), murder ("Mainlining Murder"), and, now and then, the fairer sex ("Little Rude Girl").
But Frederiksen's homages are offered in the loving name of gung-ho rock & roll, and VIKING delivers that spirit in kind.

You can only really make out one word on the brief, bombastic intro to Lars Frederiksen's self-titled solo CD, and that word is "motherfuckers." It's a fitting opening salvo from the mohawked Rancid guitarist, one of the most visible and respected figures of just-above-ground punk, who is famous for veering between profanity and incoherence.
Of all the unholy noise generated by the Rancid conglomerate, Operation Ivy still represents the zenith, balancing punk snarl with big-time sing-along reggae jammin'.
Frederiksen wasn't around at the time to help make it, but he clearly learned from it, and he carries Ivy's punk quotient to a satisfying conclusion.
