The swapping algorithm uses a time stamp on all objects, which is examined once every 10 minutes.
This system makes it possible to clean up other types of objects, which are not considered important if they are not used.

Combat orientated MUDs don't necessarily have to involve combat but they usually do.
The most widely used combat orientated MUD is LPMUD (an acronym for the author's name Lars Pensj, MUD).
Other MUDs in this category are generally derivatives of LPMUD, namely DikuMUD (from the acronym Datalogisk Institut Koebenhavns Universitet or Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen), MudOS, CircleMUD, MERC, ROM, DGD (Dworkin's Generic Driver) and AberMUD (written at Aberystwth University).

benturner.com says, "Psst, waste your time with this instead: Online Gaming"
This term is very broad now, but basically a MUD is a place on the Internet where people can have fun and socialize.
MUDs come in many different forms, from LPMUDs (Lars Pensj Multi-User Dungeon) to DikuMUDs (Datalogisk Institut Koebenhavns Universitet Multi-User Dungeon) to MOOs (MUD Object Oriented) to MUCKs to MUSHes (Multi-User Shared Hallucination).
MUDs differ from IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, in that MUDs have virtual worlds (usually medieval) where people can kill monsters or "roleplay", whereas IRC sites just function as conference rooms for chatting or other *cough* activities.

:::::::::::::: Chapter 6 Lesson 1 in LPC :::::::::::::: Lesson 1 (Introduction to LPC/Beginning Objects) LPC is a small, object oriented type C language developed by Lars Pensjö for LP-MUD, a Multi-User Dungeon environment under many UNIX systems.
Since the premise of this language is based on C, it contains many of the syntactical qualities of C, but also maintains a large set of functions capable of performing many actions inside the game.
The function this_player() will return this object, but only if it is living.
