The expression "The Lasallian Tradition" as frequently applied to the College of Santa Fe means that the college is part of a living tradition based on a philosophy, shared by Brothers and Colleagues, that inspires a world-wide educational mission of schooling at every level.
Now Lasallian schools continue this tradition and broaden it to include many who, regardless of their social class or views on religion, are willing to grow in their appreciation and acceptance of those from backgrounds other than their own.
Lasallian colleagues, men and women who are not vowed Brothers but are part of the Lasallian family, have taken on greater responsibility for the continuation of the Lasallian schools by fully sharing in the Lasallian community of collaboration and support.

A Miguel School is defined as a small, Lasallian elementary, middle, or high school that is not tuition-driven and serves students and families from all faiths and cultures who are at-risk due to challenging economic situations.

Lasallian/Christian Brother Teachings where the Brothers, and now the whole Lasallian Family, are called to justice as exemplified in the traditions of the Institute, the writings of St. John Baptist de La Salle, and in the Rule of the Brothers in always giving preference to the poor as well as educating in Christian values (justice).
Lasallians work with the "poor" (defined as the economically deprived, victims of social injustice, delinquents, those neglected by the rest of society, those who have learning difficulties, and those who suffer from personal, social, or family problems).
This means there should be a chance for all of the school/apostolate community (administration, faculty, staff, and students) to experience dealing with those less privileged than they in a concrete way and a way that is based on the idea that all are coequal children of God.
