LaserWriter 8.7 adds the ability for developers to create custom output filters to preprocess the PostScript code emitted by the driver prior to its being sent to a device using either a built-in I/O type or a custom hose.
When LaserWriter 8.7 brings up the print dialog, if there are no stored defaults for the printer, it tests the stored results of the query done at autosetup time.
LaserWriter 8.7 provides improved ColorSync integration by allowing the user to use the default output profile specified in the new ColorSync control panel.

LaserWriter 8, when printing directly to a printer, but not to a print queue server or to disk, can delay the downloading of a given font to just before the start of the page with that font's first occurrence.
As described above in the section LaserWriter 8 Spooling and Fonts, during the second pass prior to playing back the spooled application drawing, LaserWriter 8 first queries the printer to determine the availability of the fonts that were used in the drawing.

The LaserWriter 8.1.2 driver was the last version of the LaserWriter 8.x driver tested with any version of System 6.x.
LaserWriter 8.3.4 can be found on Apple SW Updates and resolves the PCI Macintosh printing problem.
LaserWriter 7.2 seems to work properly on newer version of the Mac OS, such as System 7.5.3.

Whenever I create a postscript file(to be sent to ACS laserwriter plus for printing), the screen will say "The bit map version of the font has been created since no printer font is present".
After I send the file to be printed on ACS laserwriter plus, those laserwriter plus fonts were printed out in bit-mapped format.

LaserWriter version 8.5.1 still does have a bug in it which is that not all spooling devices will show up in the chooser's print window the first time the chooser is opened.
LaserWriter driver 8.6.5 that comes with Mac OS 8.6 did not fix my problem of printing with Freehand 8 and LaserWriter 8.6 using Windows NT 4.0 Server as a print spooler for my Macs.

My issue is resolved, however, since a couple of years back, my 300 decided to have its little rubber foot (that pulls up the next sheet of paper) permanently down, always giving me a paper feed/jam error.
The Laserwriter is such a nice printer that it would be unfortunate if it were now defunct just because the cables and ports have changed...
Dunno about driving an Apple laserwriter from Windows, but you can get adaptors that convert the mini-DIN to RJ45 allowing the printer to connect directly to a network and so be accessable to all Macs on the network.

I have done all you said and it comes up with LaserWriter Plus info but it does not show the basic driver - LaserWriter 8.....it shows all the newer drivers for various LaserWriter printers, including Apple.
After you have mounted that disk image, then you can extract the two LaserWriter Plus printer description files (v38.0 and v42.2) with Tome Viewer.
If you are able to set up the Laserwriter Plus properly in OS 9, I think the PPD file will be in System Folder: Extensions: Printer descriptions.
