Lasker Trap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lasker Trap is a chess opening trap in the Albin Countergambit, named after Emanuel Lasker.
It is unusual in that it features an underpromotion as early as the 7th move.
In an 1899 consultation game in Moscow, Blumenfeld, Boyarkow, and Falk playing White against Lasker tried 6.Qa4+?, but Black wins after this move also.

1907 World Championship Match   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
In fact, by scoring the first three games, Lasker practically secured himself against defeat, as he could be content to take the draw whenever the slightest opportunity offered, whilst his opponent, always a player with a predilection for hazardous and brilliant strokes, was tempted into unsound play in his efforts to score a victory.
Lasker's greatest strength is as a match player, although it must not be inferred from this that he is not almost equally formidable in tournament play, as reference to his record will demonstrate.
The general opinion appeared to be that Lasker held his opponent in such a grip that he had merely to put forth his full powers to win the remaining games, the draws arising chiefly from lack of energy.

Lasker had taken this break soon after his successful title defence against Steinitz in Moscow; the dissertation which he was working on was evidently far enough advanced by the end of 1898 for him to think about playing chess again.
Lasker had a lot of match experience but his early tournaments were not GM events and at Hastings 1895 he came "only" third.
Lasker had won the tournament by now irrespective of his final results, but he concluded his event in glory on July 8, after drawing with Janowski, by beating Schlechter with Black in 22 moves.

Lasker: The bishop cannot well be played to d3 as it would constantly be harassed on that square by the fl knights.
Lasker: Here 37.Rcd1 was preferable, because the fl rooks threaten to become rather dangerous on that file, and it would have been advantageous for White to exchange at least one of the rooks and to continue his attack with Qe7.
Lasker: An error in judgment; it weakens the kingside and allows Black to exchange his knight for bishop, a piece which added much toward solidifying White's game.

Lasker: The game proceeded on novel lines from the sixth move, when, in order to get more advantage out of the position, I changed my line of attack completely.
Lasker: Steinitz, by a very finely laid trap, gained two pawns, and, although I could have won at least one of them back by 20.Bf3, I preferred to go on with my attack.
Lasker: However, Steinitz, still playing for a win, committed a great blunder on his forty-first move, lost the queen and knight or rook, and resigned shortly afterward.

Lasker saw that it was not my opponent who had made a combination but I! Several hours later he met me in the hotel and said, ‘You must have been relieved when your opponent swallowed the bait,’ Then he added, ‘These players are not so strong as most people think.’
And so Lasker had been the only one who had appraised the position properly and had been fully aware of the possibilities it contained.
Ironically, it was Emanuel Lasker who emphasized that chess involves a struggle of the total human personality in which the rounded man and not necessarily the better player eventually is bound to triumph.

First of all, fls 6th move looks highly dubious, instead he should try to generate counterplay by attacking white's pawn-chain, 6...b6 looks good.It seems like Lasker got too engaged in tactical threats against white's bishop, but he surely got a lesson not to be forgotten about the futility of that..
Also note white's 25th move, the bishop is so valuable that exchanging it for a measley rook would have been a bad affair. This sort of superior evalution of positions is one of the things that really distinguishes great masters from us ordinary mortals and one of the things we should note carefully.
