 Earth's Last Gasp?
Media coverage and Congressional concern seem to be driven more by how hot it was last summer in the eastern U.S. (less than one percent of the planet's surface) than by long-term global warming trends and considered scientific opinion.
Extrapolating from a wide range of scenarios for future pollutant emissions and the scientists' range of uncertainty about how the climate will respond to a given change in greenhouse gas concentrations, global mean temperature is projected to rise by 1.8° to 6.3° F between 1990 and 2100.

Last summer, the station's then news director, Chris Lee, boldly proclaimed that by putting an army of VJs on the streets the station would leave its competitors in the dust.
Last month, for example, its morning news show aired a weeklong series of segments extolling Australia as a tourism destination after having sent two anchors and three VJs to the country for two weeks — all of it, as it turns out, paid for by the Australian tourism ministry.
Last fall, as the station put the first wave of VJs on the streets, and as contract renewal negotiations with AFTRA languished (they still are), management struck a deal with the IBEW in which its personnel assumed on-air roles as VJs, a clear incursion of AFTRA's turf.

"The Last Gasp of Modernism?" book review by Jan Schreiber
The last line is pretty good (one wants to chip off an extra syllable), but the poem’s real strength and mystery come with the words "in trouble" in the second line, which color the entire piece.
And though the rime that matches the poem’s last word is embedded in the previous line, it is unmistakable, and the poem gains immeasurably in effect from it.
This is about one-quarter of a poem called "The Stony Heart of Her," one of the last (thus most recent) poems in the book.
