The sky boxes still matter, they’re still icons, but underneath them and all around the hall, other ways of connecting Americans to the convention are showing up.
Sky Box, an image of the conventions as media event, which is also a fading image, is just the name of the album.

Although they can be seen in a wide swath of sky, all the meteors from this shower seem to radiate from the constellation Gemini, near the two bright stars Castor and Pollux.
In Winter we are tilted away from the Sun, causing it to appear low in the sky and its light spread over a larger area, thus diluting it.

The high points on LATE FOR THE SKY are the title track and "Before the Deluge", two brooding songs of personal and social apocalypse that bookend the album andseem to reflect the disillusionment and weather-beaten moodof the counter-cultural generation in the early '70s.
'Late for the Sky' is one of the most spine-tinglingly beautiful songs ever written, and would be more effective as an album closer.
Late For the Sky is now more than 25 years old, but to me it still sounds as fresh today as it did back in the 70s.

Rolling Stone : Jackson Browne: Late For The Sky : Music Reviews
Late for the Sky, Jackson Browne's third Asylum album, is his most mature, conceptually unified work to date.
Late for the Sky is the autobiography of his young manhood.
Likewise his open-ended poetry achieves power from the nearly religious intensity that accumulates around the central motifs; its fervor is underscored by the sparest and hardest production to be found on any Browne album yet (Late for the Sky was produced by Browne with Al Schmitt), as well as by his impassioned, oracular singing style.

Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky - The Album Cover
This is the story behind the cover of Jackson Browne's 1974 masterpiece, Late For The Sky.
The Chevrolet, empty house, and sky are Late for the Sky lyrical props (further, in the songs the sky serves as the album's most striking symbol of death/salvation); and the juxtaposition of darkness and light reflects Browne's lyrical juxtapositions of resignation and idealistic determination, death and rebirth.
In all, the jacket does justice to the stunning work of pop/rock art that lies between the grooves of Late for the Sky.

On his third album, Jackson Browne returned to the themes of his debut record (love, loss, identity, apocalypse) and, amazingly, delved even deeper into them.
"The Late Show," the album's thematic center, doubted but ultimately affirmed the nature of relationships, while by the end, "After the Deluge," if "only a few survived," the human race continued nonetheless.
It was a lot to put into a pop music album, but Browne stretched the limits of what could be found in what he called "the beauty in songs," just as Bob Dylan had a decade before.

This powerful combination, manifested as an album of pop know-how and soul-baring truths, made him a star.
A poignant slice of Browne's glamorous and sometimes troubled life, LATE FOR THE SKY details a crumbling relationship heartache by heartache and tackles some really big issues: love, marriage, death, even the end of the world.
