Schematic diagram of the primate lateral geniculate nucleus.
The lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) of the thalamus is a part of the brain, which is the primary processor of visual information, received from the retina, in the central nervous system.

a cell nucleus: a spheroid body within a cell, consisting of a number of characteristic organelles visible with the light microscope, a thin nuclear membrane, a nucleolus or nucleoli, irregular granules of chromatin and linin, and a diffuse nucleoplasm.
It consists of an intermittent cell column in the middle of the lateral funiculus of the medulla oblongata, between the caudal end of the medulla and the level of exit of the glossopharyngeal nerve.
cochlea´ris poste´rior [TA] posterior cochlear nucleus: the posterior of the two cochlear nuclei, located on the dorsal aspect of the inferior cerebellar peduncle; it forms an eminence (the auditory tubercle) on the lateral part of the vestibular area of the floor of the fourth ventricle.

 The Thalamus
Since the nucleus lies on the pathway between the corpus striatum and the motor areas of the frontal cortex, it probably influences the activities of the motor cortex.
The nucleus consists of six layers of nerve cells and is the terminus of all but a few fibres of the optic tract (except the fibres passing to the pretectal nucleus).
The fibres are the axons of the ganglion cell layer of the retina and come from the temporal half of the ipsilateral eye and from the nasal half of the contralateral eye, the latter fibres crossing the midline in the optic chiasma.

Generally, responsiveness of cells in posteromedial lateral suprasylvian cortex increased with increasing texture element size, although some units were tuned to smaller element sizes than the largest presented.
Out of this number, 11 units were affected by the deactivation of the lateral part of LP and one cell, by the blockade of pulvinar.
The lateral part of the LP nucleus (LPl or striate-recipient zone) is the only region of these extrageniculate nuclei which receives afferents from the primary visual cortex.

Connections of the medial posterior parietal cortex (area 7m) in the monkey.
The afferent and efferent cortical and subcortical connections of the medial posterior parietal cortex (area 7m) were studied in cebus (Cebus apella) and macaque (Macaca fascicularis) monkeys using the retrograde and anterograde capabilities of the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) technique.
Its principal frontal corticocortical connections were with the prefrontal cortex in the shoulder above the principal sulcus and the cortex in the shoulder above the superior ramus of the arcuate sulcus (SAS), the area purported to contain the smooth eye movement-related frontal eye field (FEFsem) in the cebus monkey by other investigators.
