 Lateralus by Tool Songfacts
In Lateralus, the man was overjoyed by his supposed spiritual ascendence, but in Disposition he finds that he is unable to make any further progress toward those ends, and waits the whole song to be shown something more.
It said that Lateralus, Disposition, and Reflection were originally written and performed as one song, but were broken into parts for easier digestiblity on the album.
The song Lateralus is the culmination of these two albums.

Lateralus was/is my favourite song from the first listen, and I am personally going to go postal if TOOL doesnt get their arses into gear with the recording of their latest.
Aneima has better song writing than Lateralus but it's still a fantastic album that i've listened to hundereds of times, but I still believe Aneima is better.
Lateralus is lenghty and epic, more melody-oriented, developing the lyrical theme glimpsed in "Third Eye".

 The Lateralus Code
After being spoiled by Lateralus becoming one long song, I was never happy with the first 3 tracks of Aenima, but restricted by wanting to stick to the Fibonacci sequence.
In concert he'd start the song with the second line, and later on the Lateralus tours it sounds like he starts with "my shadow moves closer and farther away from me".
It blatantly interrupts Parabol(a) and Lateralus, two of the most positive songs on the album.

Lateralus opens with "The Grudge," a hard rock masterpiece where the band once again shows their versatility in playing with a wide variety of time signatures and loud/soft dynamics.
TooL's fans form a broad, deep base, which is why the musical establishment was so shocked when the band came out with Lateralus, their first album in four years, and moved over 500,000 copies in its first week without an outstandingly successful hit single.
Every song on here is its own little masterpiece, and the thematic combination of each track with the whole of the album makes a brilliant work that no serious music listener should go without hearing, uninterrupted, at least once.

Tool - Lateralus Album Review @ Music-Critic.com : the source for music reviews, interviews, articles, and news on the internet
As one song fades into another, Lateralus begins to feel like one continuous neurotic jam session, with songs evolving, mutating and recreating themselves in slightly different forms.
But Lateralus proves that Tool still know how to crawl into your brain and raise the hairs on your neck - whether the lights are on or not.
If you make it through the first two songs of its chaotic dementia without running for the lights, you're a stronger person than me. The hordes of recent shock rock wannabes dress in black and paint their faces with blood just to get the Christian Coalition's goat.

Tool - Lateralus Review - sputnikmusic
Lateralus was released in May 2001, so it took them a while to make (although obviously it wasn't the full five years - Maynard was busy recording/touring APC, etc).
And 'Lateralus' is probably the album that shows the typical style of the band best.
Anyway, it should be obvious by now that Lateralus isn't a small piece of work - it'll take a while to digest, but it couldn't be more worth it.

The most impressive songs from Lateralus I would have to say are the Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Ticks And Leaches, and Lateralus.
The lyrics tell a story on an album, you may not see it but listen to lateralus and each song tells a story.
This my favourite album, and it's best songs are The Grudge, Parabola and Lateralus, but all the songs are great, except the ambient track mantra, which only makes sense after taking LSD.

 Lateralus pop : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
Lateralus is only their third album of new material since 1993, and it reflects only the most modest shift in their big, lumbering thud & roll.
By now, they have their own formula down cold: Start each song with a creepy rumble, whip it into a frenetic rage, slow it down for a gentler interlude, then rev it back up for the finale.
As always, he's more than happy to pick over every mistake he ever made in life and pummel his brain senseless in the process.

Lateralus is finally being released on vinyl on Aug. 23rd...

 Restructuring Lateralus: Tool's Holy Gift
Moreover, the main riff in "Lateralus" is comprised of three different meters: 9/8, 8/8, 7/8, or: 987, which happens to be the sixteenth step in the Fibonacci sequence (as observed by Keenan himself during the writing of the song).
Anyway, all this got one unknown fan to write up a big long post somewhere and to speculate that the actual order of the songs on Lateralus needed to be rearranged so as to reveal the "true" message of the album.
Basically, the idea is this: Lateralus has 13 tracks (a Fibonacci number, BTW) so you place that track at the center of your new track order.

Anyway Lateralus is an amazing album, one of the best of the decade for sure.
The combonation of Lateralus, Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas by Tom Robbins, Alex Grey's art, and Ken Wilber's philosophy, without a doubt altered my perception.

New Tool DVD from Lateralus tour
Since the EP/DVD "Salival" is out of print, I think it would be a great idea to have a Lateralus concert, plus all 6 of their music videos on 1 dvd, and then just release the Salival ep by itself at a reduced price.
Rumors abound that Tool's long-in-the-works "Lateralus" tour live DVD has been christened "Teleincision" and has been scheduled for an August 16th release date via Zoo/Volcano.
And...there will most likely be one of the secret performances of Faaip de Oiud (sp?) on the DVD...just to see the live treatment of that song will be interesting.
