Edward Latymer (1557 or 1558-1627), an official of the Court of Wards, by his will dated 1624 left property in the Hammersmith area to provide, amongst other things, clothing and education for eight poor boys of Edmonton and eight of Fulham, which then included Hammersmith.
Latymer died in 1627 and the property was conveyed to the Edmonton trustees in 1628.

Latymer Road today is about half a mile long, running north from Church Street and then dog-legging north-west to link up with Harrow Drive.
The 1894 OS Map shows Latymer Road as approximately 200 yards long and coming to an abrupt end a short distance past Cyprus Road which was yet to be developed (though it was marked out).
Contributions to the message board reporting the memories of a resident of Latymer Road from 1917 to the 1940s suggest that there wasn't too much more development until the Latymer Estate was created in the 1930s.

When i took the examinations to enter Latymer one of the main reasons for me was that i would be assured of a place in the 6th form should there be no major incedents.
It then came as a suprise to me to be told i had to acheive the marker of 6 A's to get into the 6th form, i know this was also a suprise for Josh.
This is becasue, in their own words, the school beleive, that "school life should be valued for itself and not only as a preparation for adulthood.

It's on the south side of Hammersmith Road, and it's the only pub left on that stretch of road; there used to be more: the Rose and Crown, the Three Jolly Gardeners, and the Wheatsheaf, but they all fell to redevelopment in the 1960s and 1970s.
Its replacement, bearing the same name, was a three-story hotel with a curious lantern dome, and it was remodelled some time in the twentieth century to give it a less ornate look.
In the 1950s a restaurant opened in the back of the pub; the restaurant was called 'Latymer's', probably after Latymer Court opposite.
